08:30          Khao Yai National Park. Stop at the Km. 30 Viewpoint and a visit to the Nong Phak Chi Observation Tower.
  • Km. 30 Viewpoint The view is to the north, and one of the most stunning in Khao Yai. Early in the morning there is a sea of mist below the interlocking mountain range. At twilight you may see clouds of bats flying out of caves on Luk Chang Mountain to forage for food. The closest mountain you can see is Khao Phaeng Pha, many tens of kilometres distant. In Addition, there is a stone sign with the logo of the World Heritage site, an unmissable check-in point.

  • Nong Phak Chi Observation Tower
The Observation Tower is about 20 metres tall and located in the area of Nong Phak Chi, an important water source for wildlife. The open grassland is the sign of former agriculture, but today it is the site of artificial salt licks which provide nutrition to the wild animals, soil containing essential minerals for herbivores. Animals can be seen foraging from the Observation Tower.            Enjoy lunch at the Visitor Center or one of the nearby service points, then unwind with a relaxing afternoon coffee in the same area.

PM             Nature Trail No. 1 or No. 7, explore Haew Suwat Waterfall, or take in panoramic views from Pha Diaw Dai Viewpoint.
  • Trail No. 1: Visitor Center – Kong Kaew Waterfall
This is the shortest nature trail and the easiest to trek. It is suitable for visitors of all ages. It skirts rainforest alternating with dry forest in excellent condition. All along the trail is valuable agarwood with the refreshing scent of a fire. Animals encountered might include the Lar gibbon, pileated gibbon and various birds. At the end of the trail is Kong Kaew Waterfall, with the refreshing cool of a forest stream from volcanic rock and freshwater swamp forest, both photogenic and educational.
Distance: 1.2 km – One-way circular trail returning to the start point
Estimated time to trek: 45 mins - 1 hour
    Trail guide : Not necessary
Start point: Hanging bridge behind the Visitor Center
End point: Hanging bridge behind the Visitor Center at the National Park Office

  • Trail No. 7: Thai-American Friendship Trail
Khao Yai National Park’s latest trail celebrates the long and friendly relations between Thailand and the USA. Besides having markers of the historic relationship, the trail also follows the standards of the USA’s national parks through the Sister Parks Arrangement for Resources and Knowledge Sharing (SPARK). The trail takes in different ecological zones such as dry forest, secondary forest and grassland. Frequently encountered wildlife include the Siamese Fireback, silver pheasant, gibbons and hornbills
Distance: 2 km. one-way circular trail returning to its starting point
    Time taken: 1.5 hours
    Trail guide : Not necessary
Start point: Ridge of Sai Sorn Reservoir
End point: End of Sai Sorn Reservoir

  • Haew Suwat Waterfall is an impressive 25-metre waterfall formed by volcanic rock. As the water cascades down, it creates a beautiful curtain effect. The area below supports water-resistant plant species such as willow-leaved water croton, Glochidion, epiphytes of the genus Ficus, Ficus squamosa and Rhynchotechum. A viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the entire waterfall through the surrounding vegetation, while a short path leads down to the stream and basin. Behind the falls is a cave, visible in the dry season when water levels are low. During the rainy season, however, strong currents make the area dangerous.

  • Pha Diaw Dai Viewpoint: It is a stone platform protruding from the Cliff about 15 meters, at an elevation of about 900 meters above mean sea level. Getting there requires hiking a nature trail which goes through pristine forest which gives moisture and coolness all year. The trail is approximately 450 meters long and is quite convenient to walk as it is surfaced with wood. The start point and end point are close to each other. The trail is also a source of knowledge about montane ecosystems of high altitude plants which are adapted to cold.
